Steven Soderbergh's Contagion trailer proves an epidemic is scarier than monsters

Trailer FrenzyA special place to find the newest trailers for movies and TV shows you're craving.

We already hoped Steven Soderbergh's Contagion would be fantastic, just on the strength of movies like Traffic. But the first trailer is out, and... holy crap. Spoilers ahead...

I'm not sure I'll want to be in the same room as other humans for a week or so after watching this trailer. The idea of a fast-mutating disease that spreads by touch and kills within a day or so is just horrifying, and Soderbergh's naturalistic dialogue just makes the whole thing more horrifying. And killing off Gwyneth Paltrow early on in the film is a gutsy move! On a more cheerful note, it's great to see a film that shows the work of epidemiologists for the raw heroism it is.

Contagion is apparently coming out in September. [EW]

The concept is scary, but not realistic. A disease that virulent would burn itself out before it had a chance to spread substantially unless they add in a long incubation period between infection and illness.
