Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan is probably best known for The Empire Strikes Back, but he’s also co-written The Force Awakens and is rumored to be working on the scripts for Episodes VIII and IX, too. So when Kasdan says Lando’s story might not be over, it’s worth paying attention to.

Kasdan teased Lando’s return in an interview with Vanity Fair. It’s pretty basic:

My son wants to know: Are we ever going to see Lando Calrissian again in a Star Wars movie?

Right now, there’s no Lando Calrissian in this movie. But Lando I don’t think is finished in any way, shape, or form.

As a producer and probable screenwriter for the other two installments of the sequel trilogy, Kasdan is one of very few people to actually know whether Lando will make an appearance in Episode VIII or IX. And I think we can safely assume that Kasdan is not referring to anything else, like, say, Lando’s cameo in the Rebels cartoons.

I can very easily see the young heroes looking up General Calrissian for help in Episode VIII, mirroring his appearance in Empire Strikes Back. What I can’t imagine is Kasdan teasing this but having no intention of bringing back the galaxy’s smoother operator in future Star Wars movies.
