Itā€™s an MCU blowout as Kevin Feige discusses Black Pantherā€™s origins, the tone of Spider-Man, and the potential for the Wasp in future movies. Plus, Guillermo Del Toro leaves Justice League Dark, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 gets an official title, Wayward Pines could get a second season, and more. To Me, My Spoilers!

Vertigo Comics Movies/Sandman

According to Deadline, Warner Bros., currently having their hands full with myriad DC adaptations, has moved its Vertigo Comics adaptationsā€”including Sandmanā€”under the auspices of New Line Cinema.

Justice League Dark

While reporting on the same Vertigo Comics news, THR also added that Guillermo Del Toro has apparently left the adaptation.

Captain America: Civil War

Kevin Feige discusses where audiences will meet Black Panther in the movie:

It is a role that he is still in the beginning phases of taking on, itā€™s a mantle he is only beginning to take on because his father is older.

Today, pre-Civil War, post-Ultron I think he and his father are saying, ā€˜A bunch of vibranium just got out of here and wreaked a lot of havoc. Maybe we canā€™t stay behind these borders anymore, maybe we have to stick our heads out and make at least an attempt to be a part of the rest of the world right now, while at the same time protecting our people.ā€™ Thatā€™s sort of where we meet him in Civil War.

Feige also discusses the tone of the Spider-Man reboot:

Itā€™s the soap opera in high school, and those supporting characters, that are interestingā€”just as we hadnā€™t seen a heist movie in a long time, or a shrinking movie in a long time, we havenā€™t seen a John Hughes movie in a long time. Not that we can make a John Hughes movie - only John Hughes could - but weā€™re inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we havenā€™t done before excites us.

Doctor Strange

And here is Feige once again, this time on the ā€œweirdnessā€ of Strangeā€”as well as how the film will attempt to sidestep the Orientalist undertones of the characterā€™s original mystic origins:

As we were developing this film we looked at The Ancient One as a mantle more than a specific person. The sorcerers have been around for millennia, protecting us from things we didnā€™t know about until this story. There have been multiple [Ancient Ones], even if this one has been around for five hundred years, there were others. This is a mantle, and therefore felt we had leeway to cast in interesting ways.

So youā€™re removing the sorcerers from the phony Tibetan mysticism that Stan Lee used because he probably didnā€™t really research Tibet in any real way?

Not entirely. The phony mysticism is part of what makes Doctor Strange interesting!

But are you tying it into that specific culture?

Not Tibet. Strange leaves New York in search of something and heads east.

Speaking elsewhere at the movieā€™s press junket, Feige also briefly teased that weā€™ll be seeing more of the character of The Wasp beyond Ant-Man:

We have plans for her in the future, and we see that not-so-subtly in this film [Ant-Man].
