Oh Samuel L. Jackson - I'm trying to accept your role as the Octopus, but when you take such insane pictures all I want to do is laugh. But maybe that's the key for finding the goodness in Frank Miller's movie adaptation of The Spirit comics. The movie site has released a whole mess of new pics of characters, including more Sand Saref shots and a better look at the local henchmen. And honestly, they bring a smile to my face, because they all look so silly. Spirit spoilers inside the gallery, so comic-book movie purists beware.
I still think Gabriel Macht was an excellent pick for the Spirit, because he looks the part of dashing and handsome savior. These pics look great. I'm starting to think that maybe if the studio released a movie-inspired fumetti comic with just stills it might have a chance. But as for the actual moving pictures, so far I'm supremely not impressed. Some of these pictures first turned up at Slashfilm, and they reveal a bit of the plot. It looks like the Octopus loses his hand (which might not be true because he's supposed to be wearing gloves. It also appears as if this Spirit will span the ages as Ellen Dolan looks likes she's aged tremendously in one of the shots. [The Spirit and Slashfilm]
