See that newborn baby? Okay, now get this. The woman featured at top-right is his great-great-great grandmother. And the other women include everyone in between. That's an astounding six generations of the same family all living at the same time.

Ethan John Curtis was born to this Ontario family just a few days ago. His mother, Priscilla Steiner, is 19-years-old, and his grandmother, Stephanie Steiner is just 34. Great-grandmother, Brenda Steiner, is 51 (wow! imagine being a great-grandmother at 51!), great-great grandmother Marilyn Cross is 68, while great-great-great grandmother Doreen Byers is 86 years young.

The CBC reports:

It's a rare scenario to have six generations of the same family inhabiting the Earth at the same time.

"If you have someone who has six living generations, they must have had their children at a very young age and it's just a really unusual thing," said Lorine McGinnis Schulze, a genealogist who told CBC News she has not come across another six-generation family during her career.

As rare as this is, it's not a record. According to Guinness World Records:

The most generations alive in a single famiy has been seven. The youngest great-great-great-great-grandparent being Augusta Bunge (USA) aged 109 years 97 days, followed by her daughter aged 89, her grand-daughter aged 70, her great-grand-daughter aged 52, her great-great grand-daughter aged 33 and her great-great-great grand-daughter aged 15 on the birth of her great-great-great-great grandson on 21 January 1989.

Whoa, that's going to be a tough record to beat.

So, 19, 15, 16, 17, 17, 18 when the females of this family had their first children. I'm not sure if I would call that generations of bad parenting, or a family that has no aspirations beyond continuing the family line, ASAP. Either way, I can't help but feel saddened by this.
