Over the weekend, space shuttle astronaut Steve Swanson climbed outside the International Space Station to do some repair work and inspections. Here he floats beneath one section of the growing space structure.

The ISS is growing another section, which will allow more astronauts to live and do research for months at a time in space. Space shuttle Discovery brought up an enormous, 16-ton strut that will form the backbone for this new section. It also brought up enormous solar arrays which should keep the ISS zooming along with photon power.

Steve "Swanny" Swanson is a Browncoat, and he took the Firefly/Serenity DVDs up with him on STS-117 in 2007, to be entered into the ISS permanent collection.
