If you're a sociology nerd, you know that back in the 1930s the New School for Social Research in New York City was a haven for serious-minded lefty intellectuals. But by the 1960s, it was apparently renting out its talking heads to anyone — including Rod Serling, who was the host of a strange documentary aired in the 1960s about whether aliens exist. There is a maddeningly short snippet of this doc on YouTube, full of men with pipes pontificating and then cutting to this New School sociologist who speculates about how people would react if aliens arrived on Earth. And he actually has a lot of good points! Check out the retro UFO pontification action. And then there's a great scenario where they speculate about WHAT WOULD REALLY HAPPEN. [YouTube via Real UFOs]

I can't believe that actually qualified as an intellectual discussion.
