If you’re like us at all, you’ll have a reading list that’s as long as your arm. Instead of doing your typical list of books on a guest blog, Rob Boffard turns to an unconventional medium: rap video.
Boffard, who throws in a plug for his recently-released books Tracer and Impact, noted that he had “always been a rapper alongside my writing,” and while in the shower one day, he came up with the line “All you kids on the Nebulas that’s winning awards...” and quickly began adding in book titles. “Thought I’d see if I could make it a track...just something fun, which is why I did it over that Just Blaze beat. Like a mixtape cut.”
It was actually quite tough. I spent ages getting the lip-syncing right - I wish I could say I rapped the whole thing in one take, but I don’t have that kind of breath control! I also had to learn how to edit video - audio mixing is fine, but video was a new challenge.
Here’s the first video, in which he runs through 64 books (you can read the entire list in the description).
Based on the comments he received for the first video, he realized that he left a ton of books on the table, and decided to do a second, in which he rattles off another 49 titles (list):
We have to say, he’s got a great taste in books - there’s a lot of gems here, from A Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers to The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin.
