Paradise Lost could have been the year's most gorgeous Biblical film

Update: Artwork removed at the request of the artist.

This year's mini-trend of Biblical epics includes Aronofsky's Noah and Ridley Scott's Exodus. But if the cards had played out differently, we could have seen Alex Proyas' Paradise Lost, based on Milton's poem about the fall of Lucifer. And judging from this concept art, it could have been the most lovely of all.

Paradise Lost, of course, wouldn't be a "Biblical" epic in the strictest sense, since Milton takes a fair number of liberties with the Bible story in his famous poem. (And then Proyas probably would have taken another bunch of liberties on top of that.) Lucifer would have been played by Bradley Cooper, in an interesting casting choice. Casey Affleck would have played Gabriel, Djimon Hounsou would have been Abdiel, the Angel of Death and Benjamin Walker would have been Michael.

This concept art comes from artist Kelton Cram, via Comic Book Movie.

Cram has apparently worked on Max Steel, Independence Day 2, and the new Planet of the Apes — so expect to see a lot more of his shiny art soon.

Looks like a cross between Bayonetta, Darksiders and Devil's May Cry...

I guess there's only so much you can do with Demonic and Angelic themes.
