Yep, Ben Whishaw is the new voice for Paddington. He's replacing Colin Firth, whose voice was deemed "too mature." Well, of course. Because the voice is the thing that's wrong with Paddington, and not the fact that he's now a full-sized, realistic-looking bear wearing just a coat and a hat.

Whishaw himself was hesitant to take the role, telling the Daily Mail:

I resisted a little bit, because I had a bad experience doing this kind of work in the past and I thought I was no good at it. But I was persuaded to go, slightly grudgingly.

Look, this should be a light-hearted children's movie. Or at least a wistful, dreamy one. And they've gone with someone who did a "landmark" Hamlet. And I loved Whishaw in The Hour, but everything we hear about this movie is more in the "terrifying" camp then the "adorable" one.

It was Firth they were talking about as hesitant to take the part, not Whishaw.

— From the Daily Mail article:
Producer David Heyman and director Paul King told me that Colin sensed early on, before they did, he wasn't right for the role.
'He was saying: "Are you sure I'm right?" He was way ahead of us,' Heyman admitted. 'Colin was brilliant, but his voice was, ultimately, too mature.'
