Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost will return to TV for the next Doctor Who Christmas Special, which will be Peter Capaldi's first holiday outing as the Time Lord. He'll be joined by a variety of guests stars, including Michael Troughton, son of actor Patrick Troughton, best known as the Second Doctor. Hmm...

There are no real details on the special's story so far, but other stars include (courtesy of the press release) "Natalie Gumede (Coronation Street, Ideal, Strictly Come Dancing), Faye Marsay (Pride, The White Queen, Fresh Meat) and Nathan McMullen (Misfits, Casualty)." You can read the entire release over at Doctor Who TV.

Thought: Couldn't The World's End have easily taken place in the Doctor Who-niverse? I mean, that's exactly the type of alien invasion the Doctor stops on a regular basis, right? I'd love to see a director's cut that inserted Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor in the background of all the pub scenes, just pleasantly having a beer.
