New trailer for In Saturn's Rings is guaranteed to give you goosebumps

South African filmmaker Stephen van Vuuren is currently working on an IMAX production called In Saturn's Rings in which he's stitched, processed, and animated over a million images to give viewers a remarkable sense of motion and full immersion. The result can only be described as spectacular.

Van Vurren's not-for-profit project, formerly known as Outside In, draws from still photographs taken by the Cassini-Huygens mission at Saturn and 25 other sources. The film has been in development for a few years now, and its slated for release on IMAX at 6K resolution early next year.

The visual effect, which compiles still photographs into a moving image, was devised by Van Vurren himself.

"The goal is to use large screen imagery, synchronized to powerful but moving music, to create an experience for those who see it, hear it and feel it," he writes on the project website.

Be sure to select 'original' quality to see the video in its full 4K glory.

DISCUSSION

"THIS IS REAL" - No, it is not. These are photos tweaked through 3D projection. (i.e. VFX)

"NO CGI/VFX" - Ummm... Only by an impossibly narrow definition of CGI and VFX would this statement hold any water.

Still very nice looking, but control the hype machine.
