New research on wormholes suggests that these theoretical shortcuts that connect distant points in the universe might be linked with the spooky phenomenon of quantum entanglement. As Charles Q. Choi writes in LiveScience, this would allow particles to be connected regardless of how far apart they are — a finding that could help scientists explain the universe from its very smallest to its biggest scales.

I realize that there is a level of theoretical physics at play here, but there is no actual proof the wormholes exists, correct? How is it possible to research something that doesn't exist or that we have no genuine understanding of how it works.

Physics makes sense on paper, but if someone came out and said that wormholes are the remains of unicorn sneezes, is there no way to prove him wrong?
