Lion Forge

While there have been a handful of comic book characters like Marvelā€™s M-Twins and Chip Reeceā€™s Metaphase who are people with super abilities and people living with cognitive disabilities, thereā€™s yet to be a hero with Down syndrome leading his or her own comic. In Lion Forgeā€™s upcoming Superb, thatā€™s going to change.

As a part of Lion Forgeā€™s Catalyst Prime series that kicked off last week with Noble, Superb will tell the story of Jonah, a young man struggling to find his place in the world and put his superpowersā€”strength, telekinesis, and telepathyā€”to good use. Created through a partnership between Lion Forge and the National Down Syndrome Society, Superb will be written by David F. Walker and Sheena C. Howard and illustrated by Ray-Anthony Height and Le Beau L. Underwood.

ā€œEveryone faces different challenges in life, but those challenges donā€™t prevent us from wanting to be heroes,ā€ Lion Forge head Geoff Gerber told The Hollywood Reporter. ā€œSuperb is a story about two young people faced with challenges who struggle to understand one another and what it means to be heroes. But some challenges are more difficult for many of us to understand.ā€

The first issue of Superb is due in stores this July.
