Netflix Gets Into The Anime Licensing Game With Knights Of Sidonia

Trailer FrenzyA special place to find the newest trailers for movies and TV shows you're craving.

Netflix already has plenty of anime available on DVD and steaming. But Knights of Sidonia is different. The online entertainment behemoth has licensed and localized the 12-episode series Knights of Sidonia themselves, and will stream the entire show beginning July 4th.

Here's the plot summary:

The first Netflix original anime series, Knights of Sidonia, based on the popular manga series of the same name, follows Nagate, a low-born youth in a society of genetically engineered refugees who escaped the destruction of Earth one thousand years earlier and now occupy the massive ship Sidonia. When Nagate's talent as a pilot is revealed he becomes one of Sidonia's elite defenders against the Guana, shapeshifting aliens bent on eliminating humans from existence.

The first season has already finished airing in Japan (literally, the finaleaired just a few hours ago), so it's not exactly as "original" it's getting dubbed, but it does mean Netflix is your only (legal) way to see the show in English. the must have some great expectations for Sidonia if they ponied up the money themselves as opposed to letting a regular U.S. anime licensor deal with it. Hmm...
