Vitals: How do you follow up a sci-fi/horror hybrid? You don't — James Cameron's return to Sigourney Weaver's trials and tribulations in the future's an amped-up take on a thousand war movies. A crew of beleaguered B-movie Space Marines and Weaver go back to where it all began to learn a few lessons about motherhood and firepower — and while there's plenty of smarts in the script, the action and tension never let up.

Crunchy Goodness: 5

Sequels: Alien 3, Alien 4 and Alien Vs. Predator demonstrate the law of diminishing returns in spectacular fashion.

Bang For Your Buck: Sigourney Weaver, packing heavy iron, taking on the worst mom in the universe: "Get away from her, you bitch. ..."

Life Lessons: Don't trust the oily, unctuous company representative who promises — promises — that he's going to do the right thing if there are, in fact, signs of alien life at the corporations' remote terraforming outpost.
