Mr. Peabody And Sherman Concept Art Is Way More Surreal Than The Film

We liked Mr. Peabody and Sherman a fair bit — but this concept art by Priscilla Wong is just dazzling. Including some lush historical vistas, a time tunnel, and what appears to be a sequence where Sherman turns into a flower? Even if you skipped the movie, this art is worth a look.

There's a huge gallery of Wong's Peabody art over at CGMeetup and Wong's own blog, but our favorites are below:

DISCUSSION

I would like some research done into making movies look like their pre-production art. Animated films just end up homogenised to the point of cookie-cutter. I like that they're trying to bring more squash-and-stretch and fast paced silliness in, but if they could try to make the visual style look unique and creative, I would be so very happy.

Arguably Paperman was trying to do that, and struggled a bit which is why it hasn't immediately been applied to a feature film. And I've seen a couple of other short films that have been making some efforts too. I just look forward to seeing them on the big screen one day.
