Krampus is coming early this year — October 6, to be precise — with some juicy additions to Hammer Horror’s selection of classics available on Blu-ray: Taste the Blood of Dracula, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, The Mummy, and Dracula Has Risen From the Grave. Three star the late Christopher Lee.

Here’s Lee giving Vampire Eyes as only he could, in the Dracula Has Risen From the Grave trailer:

And here’s (a barely-recognizable) Lee with frequent co-star Peter Cushing, star of Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, in The Mummy. “He who robs the graves of Egypt ... dies!”

The set is available for pre-order on Amazon now; though this is being marketed as the “Volume One” Hammer Horror Collection, there’s no word as to what a “Volume Two” might contain. However, distributor Warner Home Video is putting out a second Blu-ray collection on October 6: the Special Effects Collection, which contains some essentials of the early critter-and-beast genre: Mighty Joe Young, Them, Son of Kong, and The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.

The lack of proper R1 Blu-Ray releases for classic Hammer flicks has long been a frustration for me, especially when they’ve been out in Australia for years. I’d sell my soul (and yours) to get my hands on a US release of the R2-only 21 disc Ultimate Hammer Collection, or at the very least, a better transfer of Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter.
