We've been waiting a long time for the next Star Wars movie... but we've been waiting even longer for a sequel to Spaceballs, Mel Brooks' Star Wars spoof. But now, Brooks says he actually wants to make this happen, and he aims to start work on it soon after The Force Awakens comes out.

Redditor CallMeObadiah heard Brooks discussing the possibility of a Spaceballs sequel on Adam Carolla's Take a Knee podcast. And E! Online has the exact quote from Brooks:

If I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out, you know, maybe a couple of months later, Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, I'd have a big weekend, you know, no matter what, even if it fell on its ass and you know, didn't get that money back

But that first weekend, the anticipation of seeing Spaceballs 2, would, you know...I still have Daphne Zuniga and I still have Rick Moranis if he'd do it, and I've still got me.

Excuse us while we wipe a tear for John Candy ... sigh ... then commence with the praying to the movie gods to make this happen!

Possibly unpopular opinion: I rewatched some of Spaceballs the other day, and had to turn it off. It has seriously not held up.
