Fox must be happy with the Matt Reeves' take on the new Planet of the Apes franchise, because even before the second film has been finished filming, the Cloverfield director has been hired to film the third movie as well.

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has asked Reeves to come back (once he's completed his work on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) to film the third installment. Which could mean very good things about this sequel.

Set after the fall of man, Dawn stars Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, and Jason Clarke (the new John Connor), while Andy Serkis will return to play head ape Caesar. The sequel follows a group of human survivors who have to face Caesar's ever-growing Ape army. Also, cars no longer work for some reason and everyone rides horses.

The Working Dead

Cars would no longer work because even if they had gas, gasoline goes bad after a short while. Essentially with the distribution network down, it would disrupt how cars can get gas. I would be certain that with the disease that killed most of the human population, they just don't have enough people (or ambition other than to survive), to keep production of this resource.

Goes for the Walking Dead too. They should have run out of gas seasons ago.
