This is insane. Four new live-action superhero TV shows? all set in the the Marvel cinematic universe along with Agents of SHIELD? A miniseries based on Marvel's oddest team, the Defenders?!

Deadline reports that the four series will be a minimum of 13-episodes long each, and be released over the course of several years, beginning in 2015. Here's what Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment, had to say in the official press release:

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty. This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”

Look, I know I joke about Marvel kicking DC's ass in the live-action entertainment, but this is absurd. Metaphorically speaking, DC's not even in the race any more. They're standing around the start line, wondering which running shoes they should put on.

Marvel has one show on the air and it is the first in 30 years and hasn't even completed a full season. DC had Smallville run a full decade, Arrow is in its second season has already begun to launch The Flash from it. Not talk about it, already filmed the introduction of Barry Allen. How exactly is Marvel winning on TV again? Because they're talking about 4 shows that haven't even been made yet? You've an interesting definition of winning.

ETA: You said "live action entertainment" not "TV" so yeah I guess your definition holds, but you're still counting birds in a bush, when there are none in the hand.

That said, as an Iron Fist fan I feel he deserves his own movie independent of anyone else. I know everyone loves the "Doc Savage" retelling by Brubaker and Faction, but my heart will always be with the Claremont/Byrne series.
