The first trailer for Season 2 of The Man in the High Castle is here, and things aren’t getting any better in our dystopian Nazi hellscape. In fact, looks like they’re about to get a whole lot worse.
The award-winning Amazon series, based on the Philip K. Dick novel, gives us a parallel reality where the Third Reich won World War II. And it’s clear the Nazis are still the dominating force in this alternate world. You’ve got Nazi commercial airplanes, towering cities, even Marilyn Monroe singing a sultry “Happy Birthday” to the Führer. Still, it’s not going to be all sunshine and roses for the Nazi Party, as we see Joe try to resign, and John Smith wrestle with his own guilty conscience.
As we saw at the end of Season 1, there’s also the bizarre presence of our own reality, as shown in Tagomi’s headtrip into 1960s San Francisco. In the trailer, Tagomi clearly hasn’t let that go, and it’ll surely be a big part of his character development next season. It looks like we’ll also be seeing more reels, mostly thanks to Juliana, who’s usually the only one getting any damn work done. And it looks like she’s defecting to the Nazi side of the US, based on this NYCC clip, which I can’t imagine will bode well for her in the long run.
The Man in the High Castle debuts December 16.
