Let Gary Wolfe teach you “How Great Science Fiction Works.” Gary K. Wolfe is one of the most prolific and influential commentators on science fiction, including several books, plus criticism in Locus Magazine. And now, he has a 24-lecture audio class on the history of science fiction, “How Great Science Fiction Works.” The class, which includes a 215-page course book, and a rundown of the most essential books in science fiction history, is available from The Great Courses, but is also free for Audible members. Holy crap, $150 just for the digital audio, or almost $300 for the DVDs. It would make more sense to buy an Audible subscription just for the course, then cancel when you’re finished.
To be clear, I don’t doubt the quality of the scholarship here, I was just expecting a non-collegiate price for a non-collegiate course structure.
