“Save the Rebellion, Save the Dream!” Dammit, Rogue One, I’ve got a little something in my eye.
As we near the premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it’s clear the filmmakers have moved from the angsty rebellion angle (“This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.”) into one that focuses more on the general theme of Star Wars: Hope at all costs. Could just be the promotion campaign, or it could be all those reshoots changed the tone. And you know what, I don’t care. I love it.
This latest TV promo hones in on the desperate attempt for our rebels to steal the plans for the Death Star, which they say is capable of destroying an entire planet (spoilers: it is). This is a mission that’s very likely to end fatally for some, if not all, of our brave heroes. But in the end, it works, as the events of Rogue One will play into Luke Skywalker’s successful destruction of the Death Star in Episode IV. Save the dream, indeed.
