Latest Game Of Thrones Trailer Reveals New Plots And New Problems

The fourth trailer for season 4 of Game of Thrones is jam-packed with new footage (including a breath-takingly awesome shot of Daenerys and Drogon) but it's the new stories the trailer presents that are most intriguing.

Since this is the point where showrunners Dan Benioff and D.B. Weirs have to generate new story material to keep certain characters on the screen and certain actors employed, it makes sense that we're finally getting to see how some of these characters will spend some time. We already knew Stannis and Davos were heading to Braavos for a while. It seems that Jaime is sending Brienne to go find Arya, since Sansa is still "safe" at King's Landing. But is Ramsey Snow going to be hunting down Bran and Rickon? What happens to Bran and the Reeds? And what will Theon/Reek be doing during all this?

We won't have too long to wait to find out. April 6th, people. Mark your calendars.

DISCUSSION

I, for one, am open to any "streamlining" the show does. Print storytelling can get away with slogging along, but not visual storytelling. I might feel differently if GRRM's story of The Song of Ice and Fire was finished, but it's not. Entirely too much time was spent with minutia in A Feast of Crows and A Dance with Dragons and not enough with real character arcs. The show has already cut a lot of "fat" that hasn't been missed. More of the same will be fine with me. Books and films are two different forms of storytelling. With a story this size, trying to match the books is ridiculous. Especially with the opportunity to improve the story. Anyway, books still stand as they are for those who want to experience them.
