Kingsman 2's Plot Sounds Delightfully Bonkers

The sequel to Kingsman got a subtitle this weekend, the wonderfully nonsense-sounding The Golden Circle. But we also found out just enough about the plot to be convinced that it’s going to be as out there as the original.

Empire Magazine has a feature on the sequel, which will include another barroom fight (required by these movies, now, I think) and a skiing sequence. It will also include robot dogs, a one-armed henchman, and an attack from what director Matthew Vaughn described as “a massive fucking frankfurter.” Okay then.

Vaughn also shared that, “I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot.” The villain is Poppy, played by Julianne Moore; Empire helpfully shared concept art of her lair, along with the totally subtle Statesman HQ, a Kingsman underwater vehicle, and someone standing in rubble:

I’m disappointed, as Kingsman 1 was a regressive, stupid piece of garbage.

A lily-white gang of heroes killing racial minority villains? A white guy slacker getting to be the hero because his Daddy was Special? The female character who actually passed all the tests sidelined to shoot a missile at a satellite, because the Menz have to save the day?

Kill this franchise with fire, before another strong-willed female character becomes the punchline to an anal sex joke. (And no, I don’t care what sex the writer of this garbage is.)
