Jem & The Holograms To Star In Presumably Outrageous Live-Action Movie

Looks like the "movies based on '80s toylines" genre is no longer just a boys club. Former doll and cartoon franchise Jem and the Holograms will rock their own live-action movie, to be directed by G.I. Joe 2's Jon M. Chu.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

According to the producers, Jem is being reimagined "for a whole new generation with themes of being true to who you are in a multitasking, hyperlinked social media age."

Ryan Landels wrote the script, which, per the producers, centers on an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. She and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt — one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.

Hmm. Any Jem movie that doesn't feature the Misfits trying desperately to murder their musical competition doesn't interest me, but it's way too early to pass judgment, and besides, I'm hardly this movie's target audience. I guess it'll really depend on who plays Jem and what the music sounds like. Um, can anyone make sure Taylor Swift is too busy to star in a movie for the next five or so years?
