Jeb Bush Offers His Supergirl Review: "She Looked Pretty Hot"

Jeb Bush, a human being and not an alien convulsing inside a skin sack, had a little bit of trouble dealing with a softball question about what his favorite Marvel superhero is. Yeah. Look back up at that headline, mouth “Marvel?” to yourself and keep reading.

Jeb (or Jeb! as his friends call him) was asked at an event in Nevada last night what his favorite Marvel superhero was. The moderator said that the question specified Marvel. And Jeb, a man who presumably lives in America on the planet Earth in 2015, came up with this answer (after saying he hadn’t seen the new TV show about Ant-Man):

I like watching the movies. I wish I owned Marvel, as someone that believes in capitalism.

Okay, so Marvel is your favorite superhero in the realm of capitalism. But not the answer to the question. Try again, totally-hip-with-the-kids-Jeb:

I don’t know, I’m kinda old school. I like the old school guys like Batman, a little dark these days.

Batman isn’t a Marvel hero, but at least you said “guys like Batman” there. Who from Marvel is like Batman, Jeb?

I saw that Supergirl is on TV. I saw it when I was working out this morning. She looked kinda ... she looked pretty hot. I don’t know which channel it’s on, but I’m looking forward to that.

Still not Marvel, and with a fun little leering aside. Just go home.

I feel like our derision is somewhat misplaced here.

Why the fuck are we even asking politicians shit like this? It’s not like I’d like Jeb Bush – or, indeed, literally any politician – any more or less if I find out that we share a fandom. That’s completely irrelevant to whether they would make good leaders of the free world.

“Oh, he’s a Batman fan? I guess we can expect him to be tough on crime then!”

If anything, the guy being baffled by the line of questioning tells me he knows that too.

* Not an endorsement, incidentally. I don’t have a dog in this race.
