The U.S.S. Discovery has welcomed aboard its captain. CBS has just confirmed that Jason Isaacs will join its next Star Trek series—but don’t forget, for the first time ever in the franchise, the captain will not be the main star.

Isaacs will play Lorca, the captain of the series’ main Federation starship, Discovery. But, as we’ve known for a while, he won’t be the lead character of the show; that’ll be his Number One, Lieutenant Commander Rainsford, played by The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green. So while it’s certainly an important role for the show to fill, let’s not forget who the real star is. Alongside Isaacs’ casting, CBS also announced that Mary Wiseman has joined the show as Cadet Tilly—a student who’s been assigned to the Discovery in her final year of Starfleet Academy.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to air on CBS All Access later this year.

Honestly I don’t believe the Captain won’t be the star.

They may try to do it a different way but I’d be ten slips of GPL they’ll fall back into old patterns when they realize that every episode can’t be the intended protagonist-First Officer asking for permission to do everything.

Also who the heck wants be a Star Trek captain but not the star of the show?

What’s the casting call for that like: “look like a Captain but keep your mouth shut”?
