Japanese roboticists are building a mechanical slug

Researchers at Chuo University's Nakamura Lab are experimenting with Toro II, a robot that emulates the wave-like movements of gastropods. When moving, this omnidirectional robot keeps every segment of its body on the ground, affording it enhanced stability.

The Nakamura Lab biomechatronics researchers are also experimenting with snail-style robots that can climb walls. For the sake of all that's good and holy, let's just hope they don't decide to eventually outfit the Toro II with high-speed love darts.
