J.K. Rowling writing a novel for grown-ups

Thank goodness, J.K. Rowling has resisted the temptation to spin out the Harry Potter universe endlessly, now that she's got more money than the Queen. Rowling has inked a deal for a new adult novel, to be published by Little, Brown. In a statement, she said:

Although I've enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series.... The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.

Let's hope it's still in the fantasy/science fiction wheelhouse. Either way, we can't wait to read it! [Publishers Weekly]

I actually wish she would let other people play in the harry potter universe. Much like Star Wars, she set up a tremendously rich universe and backstory. Potter was only 1 piece, but there's plenty of side stories that could be told. Or pick up where the books left off, voldamort is gone, Potter's story is over, and just tell stories that take place in that world (outside of hogwarts.)
