In case you were still wondering whether this Avengers thing would catch on with the kids... The big Marvel team-up movie amassed over $200 million in its opening weekend, for a bigger debut than the last Harry Potter movie, The Dark Knight... or any other movie, ever. (In non-inflation-adjusted terms.)

Part of the reason for the huge box office? Over half of movie-goers chose to see The Avengers in 3-D — and to be fair, the 3-D conversion was actually pretty decent, especially compared to most other post-conversions thus far.

Avengers now has a global box office total of $641 million, according to Box Office Mojo, and is easily on track to join the select club of movies raking in over $1 billion at the global box office. [L.A. Times]

It was an entertaining movie, but not being a marvel comic book fan, I didn't get following:

1. Hulk being sentient enough to have a conversation or get instruction from other members.

2. I liked the mad Hulk in the SHIELD airship than the comic relief figure on the last 1/3 of movie. He seems a lot more interesting when he is mad and appeared to be uncontrollable.

3. Loki's behavior where he didn't talk about him being the immortal in front of kneeled German crowd or Ironman and yet he compelled to explain why he is better than everyone else to Hulk was just ridiculous and stupid.

4. Dropping glass cell won't kill Thor (I presume), but Thor seems to be so in hurry to get out of the enclosure.

5. Captain america seems to be able to take on anybody although he doesn't seem to have a lot of advantages over the other heros....what's up with the Shield?

I know it's a super hero movie, and I generally enjoy what Joss does when he has time to flush out character details, etc. But it just felt very silly.

BTW Hulk and Ironman are the best characters in this movie followed by forgettable black widow and captain america. Thor and Loki just seem so unnecessary, but I guess someone has to setup the fire cracker to bring avengers together.
