Ok, I need to serious for a bit since this is something I never understood.

Some people fear a complete corporate takeover, others fear a totalitarian government takeover, and still others fear a Church takeover.

The thing is a church subsists off voluntarily contributions and can do nothing but guilt you into filling a pew. You volunteer for it.

A corporation may corner the market, but it exists because you buy its product. If it doesn’t do a good job selling you a product, you buy elsewhere, or a garage startup will spring up and do a better job.

A government has a legal right to kill others (War) and may give itself a legal right to kill you (purges, gulags, holocaust etc) It is something they have done in the past, and will probably do in the future.

Why do corporations attract such ire in fiction? Of the three, the government domination ones scare me the most.

Please fill me in, this is yet another subject I’m lost on.
