Some potentially new Star Wars: The Force Awakens concept art has dropped, and it appears to reveal an updated version of the Empire's preferred vehicle for space combat. Take a grain of salt, be prepared for a potential spoiler, and then check it out below!

As you can see, the image comes from Indie Revolver, which has found a great deal of Episode VII concept so far, and means this is probably legit. Assuming it is, check out that design! I'm not sure how I feel about the red highlights, but I love the lower cockpit and the effectively taller wings — there's something about the new lack of symmetry that looks really cool to me. It's different enough to be unique, but familiar enough to be clearly Star Wars.

But more importantly — are those members of the Imperial Guard hanging out in front of the TIE?! Are they still guarding the Emperor? Is Palpatine somehow still around? Has someone else been declared emperor? Or are they simply attending the next highest-ranking officer? Or is this just a meaningless artistic flourish?

God, I don't think I've been more effectively and continually thrilled by concept art before. I know 2015 just started, but I may need to be put in a medically induced coma until next December.

In the Star Wars the red denotes a diplomatic ship. The rebel cruiser in IV had 'em, once you see it it's pretty clear. Got this factoid from the studio I forget whether it was comments on a DVD or a making-of featurette, but it's not something I just pulled out of my ass, it's an official thing. Unless I dreamed it, which is possible, it's a thin line sometimes.

I'm guessing a shuttle of some kind for someone high-ranking and probably eeeeeeeevil.

Of course we are also talking about the Abrams universe now, and this is a man who thinks that starships can go underwater like a submarine, which scares me. He might just think red looks pretty.
