We recently found out that actress Lupita Nyong’o was using her considerable talents to play a all-new, motion-captured character for Star Wars: Episode VII. Now we may also know what that character looks like, too.

As you may remember, Nyong’o is playing Maz Kabata, a space pirate who lords over a wide variety of smugglers, droids and assorted aliens at her castle. This promotional image of Maz comes from Indie Revolver, which has had an extremely good tracker record when it comes to finding The Force Awakens concept art.

I have no problem with the design — it’s like a less ridiculous version of the Q-tip aliens from Attack of the Clones — but I’d be lying if I didn’t look at the character design and have a sudden, terrifying vision of her speaking in the same accented pidgin English of Nute Gunray and the rest of the Trade Federation from The Phantom Menace.

But, even if he learned nothing else from George Lucas’ prequel trilogy, surely J.J. Abrams learned that there’s no room in a galaxy far, far away from horrible racial stereotypes. Surely. ...right?
