The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson discusses in some detail how he would approach the role of Quicksilver:

“There's years - over 50 years - of backstory on him all there to use, and I like doing that. Him and his sister [Scarlet Witch] have been abandoned by their parents and their father, and they grew up in Eastern Europe defending and looking out for themselves and each other. His sister really is his guidance - emotionally she's the one who looks after him, and vice versa. He's very overprotective physically - he doesn't want anyone touching her. He has real anger frustration - I like that. I always thought it'd be quite funny if you saw him eating loads and people asked him why and he'd explain it's because he's burning so much energy all the time. Or ideas that you'd see him come back round - but he's already nipped out and got his lunch somewhere else. He just got bored - his attention span is so quick. That's what we're in talks about really, right now - how I could become that character and not feel forced. I might not look right with white hair, and the accent may be wrong... it just doesn't work like that."

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Here are some helpful insights into the motivations of Peter Dinklage’s villain Bolivar Trask, courtesy of the recently launched viral website:

Founded by Bolivar Trask in 1967, Trask Industries was built on the philosophy of advancing human progress through technology and genetics. Our early research led to the revolutionary development of DNA-Generated Prosthetics. Since then, Trask Industries has taken the lead in genetics-based defense technology with our Mutant Detection Device and Sentinel program. We’ve partnered with international governments to ensure that any threat to human extinction is preemptively neutralized. With Trask Industries, you can rest assured that the future of humanity is in safe hands.

Even from his early years as a research assistant, Bolivar always maintained a particular interest in the origin and evolution of humanity. Following in the footsteps of Mendel, Watson and Crick, Trask made it his goal to unlock the mysteries of human DNA. What he did not anticipate was the discovery of the X-Gene, a genetic finding that would prove to be the most significant of the 20th century.

Trask soon hypothesized the impending extinction of the human race. His early theories were ridiculed by his contemporaries and with no one to fund his research, Trask cared enough about humanity to invest in the founding of Trask Industries in 1967. Since its founding, Trask Industries has been at the forefront of human progress, partnering with domestic and international governments since the Nixon administration. Trask’s early ambition for genetic progress continues to fuel our technological innovations today.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Executive producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad discuss how this movie builds on its predecessor:

Tolmach: Without giving away the story, it literally starts with an enormous... thing. And that’s one of the things we wanted to do with this movie, is just... bigger, brighter, more. We’re taking it to heights you’ve never seen before in a Spider-Man movie, and we do that right from the opening gun.

Arad: This is a Q and A movie. So you saw the first one, and it worked really well establishing the characters. But the second movie allows us to hear your questions, and to take them into consideration as the script is being developed. I think the main thing in the original movie was that Peter Parker wasn’t given enough choices. In this movie, we had the opportunity to challenge say, “Okay, you are who you are now. Can you handle it? Do you own it?” And because he does own it, it becomes not only an incredible adventure, and bigger as Michael was saying, but also [full of] humour. You’re going to be laughing. We have people like Paul Giamatti in the movie.

Tolmach: Let me just pick up on something he just said, which is spot on. We felt a real obligation in the last movie to tell the origin story of this new Peter Parker. We’re sort of free of that, in some ways. This is a Spider-Man story. We left you, in the last movie, to answer your question: Peter had decided to be all things. He was going to be Spider-Man and he was going to have that girl [Gwen Stacy]. That’s the territory this movie delves into.

And in response to one question, Arad seems to hint there could be other heroes turning up:

Is there a chance that another Marvel superhero will make a cameo in this movie?

Avi Arad: Uh... I’d rather not answer that at this point. This is what the word ‘spoiler’ means. We want to always leave the audience with a couple of surprises. All of a sudden, you feel like, yeah, there’s a continuity. So if we say today how we go about it, we’d take away from the surprise of the movie.

Of course, Sony only has the rights to other Marvel superheroes who are related to Spider-Man and appear mostly in his comics. So speculation is, if another hero turned up, it could be anyone from Black Cat to Morbius the Vampire. There’s still a ton more at the link. [Den of Geek]

Doctor Who

The BBC is set to announce the identity of the 12th Doctor on a live broadcast this coming Sunday. It’s also rumored that the special will feature footage from the 50th anniversary special, which may or may not be the trailer that aired at Comic Con.

Game of Thrones

Actor Joseph Gatt, whose previous credits include Thor and Star Trek Into Darkness, is reportedly filming four episodes of an unnamed TV show in Iceland. Since there are only so many shows that could reasonably refer to, the speculation is that he is filming a fairly substantial role for Game of Thrones, with WetPaint offering the guess that he’s playing Styr, Magnar of Thenn. Their reasoning is at the link. [WetPaint]

The Walking Dead

Here’s a behind-the-scenes featurette about the fourth season premiere.

Under the Dome

Here’s a sneak peek at episode seven, “Imperfect Circles.”

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

The second episode of the Once Upon a Time spin-off is reportedly casting the following roles:

Silvermist, a beautiful 20-something Asian looking for revenge; Bearded Man/Farzeen Shahmed, a 40-year-old Middle Eastern man who sells scarves; and Old Prisoner, a 60-year-old Middle Eastern man who was imprisoned by Jafar 10 years ago. The Old Prisoner is a recurring guest role.

Sleepy Hollow

Here’s a pair of new promos for Fox’s time-traveling take on the Ichabod Crane story, which looks promisingly mental. [Shock Till You Drop]

Incidentally, the Hollywood Reporter’s Tim Goodman offers up this tidbit: “The headless horseman on Sleepy Hollow is basically a killing machine. And he's really pissed off.” For a bunch more spoiler-y tidbits, check out this article over at Examiner. [@BastardMachine]

American Horror Story: Coven

Episode director Guy Norman Bee discusses one of the first stories of season nine:

Although I got the honor of directing the first episode of Season 9 it will air second due to actor availability (one of the guest stars was only available the first 2 days of the episode so we had to shoot him out) - It picks up right where the season premiere leaves off, and the season premiere picks up right where the season 8 finale leaves off! (unlike the one year gap between S7 and S8). Sam has been "cured" and the boys resume their lives as if the trials that Sam endured in S8 never affected him. We'll find out how he made this miraculous recovery in the premiere episode. The boys get word of a few of their hunter contemporaries that have been taken hostage by a familiar face from Season 8. He/She leads them to a spot outside Eugene, Oregon so He/She can get info about where Crowley is. How He/She is able to take hunters as hostages is a big part of the episode; by the recruiting of demons and getting them to "Be All That They Can Be!"

It’s previously been announced that the second season will introduce Barry Allen with a view toward creating a Flash spinoff. The show has now moved into casting the part, with the plan being for Allen to appear in episodes eight, nine, and twenty. [SpoilerTV]

The Vampire Diaries

The fifth season premiere will be called “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” [SpoilerTV]

The Originals

Co-creator Julie Plec says the creative team is recutting the pilot — which aired last season as an episode of The Vampire Diaries — to tell the story from Elijah’s point of view:

"It's so cool because what it does is tells you everything that happened while we were off watching Klaus do his thing and meet up with Marcel and try to get to the bottom of his own mystery. It's a story of a brother coming to town to try and figure out what happened and what's going on with his younger black sheep brother. So Elijah's playing detective a bit. We get to see flashes of scenes that existed in the pilot but more from Elijah's point of view. By the last act, we're moving past that night and everything we see is new and really tees up the series beautifully. We actually are doing a bit of a time jump. In episode two, Rebekah [Claire Holt] shows up and she's been to Europe and she's done that whole thing so our timelines will sync up [with "TVD"]. That will offer us some crossover opportunities."

This isn’t exactly surprising, but Syfy has announced that it will air the third season of the show in 2014. [Coming Soon]

Beauty and the Beast

The third episode of season two is reportedly called “Liar, Liar.” [SpoilerTV]
