Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a lot of movie. Are you ready?

Despite what some may think, Disney has been pretty clear this film is the end to the trilogy of trilogies which came to be known as the Skywalker Saga. There certainly won’t be any shortage of new stories in the galaxy for years to come—we’re seeing some right now with The Mandalorian—but this film is certainly an “end.”

I haven’t been waiting ages to see the end of the ‘Skywalker Saga’, because the story really did have a totally satisfying conclusion after RotJ. There was no need for prequels, and no need for sequels - especially not sequels that leave the SW universe in essentially the same position it was in after RotJ. A lot of potential has sadly been squandered by JJ Abrams’ classic shallow film-making. Though I didn’t enjoy The Last Jedi, I did at least appreciate its attempt at vision, and I wish someone with a vision had planned out and created these movies properly in advance of them being made. Surely that would have resulted in a more coherent, satisfying series of films with a sense of purpose? Overall, I don’t think the sequel trilogy has justified it’s existence. Just my thoughts. Great review Jill!
