Time to pick the final eight teams for our scifi Sweet Sixteen. Can The Fifth Element upset 2001: A Space Odyssey? Who will survive the alien throwdown between Predator and Close Encounters? Which robots will prevail in Terminator vs. Wall-E?

Only you can decide which of these sixteen movies will go on to the next round, and you have until 11 PM tonight to vote in the polls below. In Monday's opening slate of second round match-ups, we saw our first #1 seed fall, as E.T. was convincingly beaten by Joss Whedon flagship Serenity. Both the double-digit seeds, Jurassic Park and Galaxy Quest, continued their Cinderella runs by beating favored opponents to reach the Sweet Sixteen. The opening match-ups were brutal for older science fiction movies, with top-ranked 2001 the only movie left in the tournament that predates Star Wars.

So now, the choice is yours. Can 12 Monkeys become the third double-digit underdog to reach the Sweet Sixteen by knocking off Terminator 2? Speaking of James Cameron, we have Aliens vs. The Dark Knight in a match-up of rousing action sequels. Ninth-seeded The Fifth Element had one of the most convincing wins of the first round against the original Solaris, but can Stanley Kubrick's 2001 win one for an older generation of science fiction films?

As always, the choice is yours. Here's a reminder for the rest of the tourney schedule:

Wednesday, March 23 TODAY : Second Round
Friday, March 25: Sweet Sixteen
Monday, March 28: Elite Eight
Wednesday, March 30: Final Four
Friday, April 1: Final Four

VOTE RIGHT NOW For the movie you WANT to win. Polling ends tonight at 11 PM!
