If you’re going to New York Comic-Con next week, you’d best mark down that you have plans on Thursday night, because io9 and Kotaku’s Cosplay Ball will be held October 5! Here are all the reasons you’re going to want to be there, as well as how you can get in.

This year’s Kotaku + io9 Annual Cosplay Ball will be at Yotel (located at 570 10th Ave, New York, NY) from 9:00 pm to 12:00 am on Thursday, October 5. You must be 21 and older to attend. Here’s some of what we’ll have going on:

  • Free drinks and food!
  • Dancing, with music by DJ Cutman!
  • Arcade games!
  • Photos by pro cosplay photographer Anna Fischer, as well as a Spin Me 360° photo/video booth!
  • 3D scanned and printed “Selfies” from Shapeways!
  • Artist Toshi Salvino’s touch-up station, for any cosplay emergencies!
  • More!

You aren’t required to come in cosplay, but we strongly encourage it—partially because it’s a Cosplay Ball, dammit, but also because we’ll also be holding our annual costume contest, too. This year’s categories include Best Costume, Cleverest Costume, and Best Duo, and will be judged by the aforementioned Anna Fischer and Toshi Salvino, along with io9's Beth Elderkin. Prizes include a Nintendo Switch, a one-on-one photo shoot with Fischer, and more.

If you want to party with us, you should RSVP here as soon as possible, because last year’s spots went very quickly. We hope we’ll see you there!

I’ve never done cosplay before, but there’s only one character I would cosplay as.
