Dean Devlin, writer of Stargate and producer of Independence Day, is going to produce and direct Countdown, about a boy who turns to NASA to save his dying father.

Countdown has a script from Steve Altiere (Dinotrux) and revolves around a young kid who—like many kids—is obsessed with space, and who tries to save his father by gathering a NASA engineer and his friends together. It really sounds like it could fall anywhere between the “kids go on an action adventure” and “thoroughly depressing story about accepting death” spectrum.

Could he make it a daughter? It’d be nice to break from stereotypes a little.
