In need of a good science demonstration for your classroom, study session or friday night bar-argument? Check out ScienceDemo.org, where you'll find a top notch collection of videos and other resources created by science teachers Alom Shaha and Jonathan Sanderson.
In the above video, Shaha runs us through a technique for demonstrating the effects of gravitational acceleration, "separating" the horizontal and vertical motion of a jet of water as it moves through the air with materials you can find in a typical lab setup. The key instrument in this video is the stroboscope, which illuminates the water so it appears to be suspended in mid-air. (It's the same trick used here and here.)
