In 1890, Thomas Edison created some of the world’s first “talking” dolls. The vocal components were recently restored to reveal insanely eerie, shrill intonations (even their inventor found them “unpleasant.”) The not-easily-spooked may listen to “Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep” here ... if you dare.

On the creepiness scale, I’d give that an 8. But only because starlings exist.

Admittedly, if I was rummaging through the attic and bumped into an old chest or something and suddenly heard either of those two voices speak.... well... I don’t care if it’s my house or not, it’s getting burned to the ground just on basic principles.
