The big news of the day is that Rupert Murdoch wants to buy Time Warner, which would mean way more consolidation in book publishing. And tons of layoffs in the media world. But also, I've been wondering all day... could we see Batman meet Hugh Jackman's Wolverine?

Intellectual property lawyers, please feel free to weigh in on this. I'm just thinking that if the main barrier to superhero team-ups is rights being tied up with different companies, then a merger would effectively mean the same company owns the rights to all the DC Comics and X-Men characters. And it would be somewhat ironic, if the Justice League could meet the X-Men before the Avengers manage to.
What do you think? Is this remotely plausible? (Bearing in mind that an X-Men/Justice League crossover movie would probably make squillions of dollars, so there's a big incentive to do this, if the characters are all under one roof. And Fox already made two Alien/Predator movies.)
