This reminds me of something that happened to me yesterday. I was coming out of my local comic book shop while a mother and son were walking in front of me. The boy, who looked about eight or nine turns to his mother and goes, “I would get a Black Widow toy if she were a boy.” I couldn’t help but whisper under my breath, “What’s wrong with her being a girl? There’s nothing wrong with her being a girl. And there’s nothing wrong with boys playing with girl toys.”
Seriously, there’s nothing wrong with boys playing with girl action figures and there is nothing wrong with girls playing with boy action figures. I wish parents would teach their kids that. Look, if your son doesn’t want to play with Black Widow because he doesn’t like the character. Fine. He doesn’t like the character. And there is nothing wrong with that. But if he doesn’t want to play with Black Widow because, “Ew, girl.” Teach your kid better. That’s on you.
