One of the beneficiaries of Avatar's success could be the on-again, off-again Heavy Metal movie. Now there's talk it may be reborn as an all-3D, all-animated anthology with contributions from Avatar's James Cameron, Watchmen's Zack Snyder and David Fincher.

Deadline: Hollywood reports that Fincher is once again trying to get the troubled project going at Paramount, who'd previously signed on and backed out. According to the site, the current incarnation of the Heavy Metal movie would be a 3D anthology of around nine short animations directed by big name directors, inspired by the European sci-fi of the original magazine and aimed at a similar "fanboy audience" as Sin City. Pixar, you may want to consider this a potential competitor for your next Best Picture Oscar.
