If you have fond memories of early Dungeons & Dragons modules, you are going to utterly love these special edition posters by Jason Thompson for Wizards of the Coast. They're hilarious, detailed walkthrough maps of classic adventures like Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, Tomb of Horrors, and more.

The posters are utterly gorgeous, and the campaigns that Thompson (an io9 contributor) describes are at the extreme end of mayhem. As he notes on his website, where you can buy the posters, they aren't based on actual gameplay — they're just what he thought would be the "most interesting." That's definitely one way to put it. Expand the Barrier Peaks poster below for full amazeballery, and check out all 7 posters on Thompson's website.

Ugh. Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. I remember that one when it first rolled out. I was in high school. Back in those early days, I too fell into the Nightland, Dying Earth, Lord of Light, Book of the Long Sun "techno-magic" trope.

Eventually I came to dislike it, feeling it cheapened magic, and made my campaign strictly medieval in technology and no science. If I'm gonna run a science fiction game—and I think I'd run a pretty kick ass hard SF game—it's gonna be a strict science game too.
