Yep, that’s right: more Transformers sequels are on the way. Stephen J. Davis of Hasbro noted during a Q&A that the company has recently planned out installments 5, 6, 7 and 8 for the franchise.

Davis dropped the news during a keynote in which he spoke about how the company had put together a writer’s room with a number of leading screenwriters.

We’ve known about the writer’s room for a little while now: shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, it includes writers such as Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man), Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Jeff Pinkner (Lost/Fringe / Amazing Spider-Man 2), Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand / The Incredible Hulk), Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Christina Hodson (Black List), Steven DeKnight (Daredevil) and Lindsey Beer, a science major at Stanford.

Davis is responsible for content licensing, and spoke about how they brought a number of writers together to draw up a road map for what the future of the franchise will look like. Given that Transformers had earned Hasbro and Paramount a boatload of money, it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock that the franchise isn’t going anywhere.

On one hand, we’re getting more Transformers movies. On the other, it looks like they’re beginning to take some cues from what companies like Marvel are doing by figuring out a plan that they can then align all of their products around.

It is interesting (and maybe a bit heartening) to see that they’re actually planning ahead, rather than going sequel to sequel.

I stand by my opinion that the first of the Live Action Transformer films is actually pretty good.

I cant really say that this makes me feel good.

Also 8 films? Damn that like Horror movie level of sequels.
