Get ready for giant robots, a faerie brawl, and a female Frankenstein

We've got four short films for your Cult Movie Worship this weekend! Plus a brand new she-Frankenstein movie and a new feature in which Michael Shanks must outwit a cold front...THAT KILLS.

American Mary

American Mary is from the awesome movie-making ladies that brought us Dead Hooker In A Trunk, the Soska sisters. Their next project is still shrouded in mystery, but from what we can ascertain from the trailer and synopsis, it's like a modern day Frankenstein.

Official Synopsis:

American Mary is the story of a medical student named Mary who is growing increasingly broke and disenchanted with medical school and the established doctors she once idolized. The allure of easy money sends a desperate Mary through the messy world of underground surgeries which leaves more marks on her than the so-called freakish cliental.

Arctic Blast

Quiet Earth pointed out this disaster movie beauty in which Michael Shanks has a mental showdown with a cold front.

Official Synopsis:

When a solar eclipse sends a colossal blast of super chilled air towards the earth, it sets off a catastrophic chain of events that threatens to engulf the world in ice!

Jack Tate is a brilliant yet troubled physicist specializing in Earth Sciences. Complicating his life is a messy divorce from the local medical examiner EMMA (Alexandra Davies) and a strained relationship with his teenaged daughter ANDREA (Indiana Evans). When Jack learns about the bizarre deaths of his colleagues, he sets off to discover the cause. By piecing together the chain of events: the solar eclipse, a sudden drop in temperature of the mesosphere, and a rip in the ozone layer, Jack concludes that all of these elements have combined to create the ultimate disaster—a new ICE AGE!
With part of the South Pacific in a deep freeze and a mass evacuation underway in coastal Australia and New Zealand. It must be stopped before millions more die.

The Last First Date

Check out this cute little short story that happens right at the cusp of an alien invasion. Thanks for the tip, Teddy!

Hillary Yeo has been working for three years on Godaizer, a CG-animated short that's inspired by robot animation from the 70s and 80s. In three months he'll be done, and from the looks of this trailer and some of his concept art, we've got a lot to look forward to. Here's a still from some of the final work.

An independent computer animated short about a robot repair warehouse run by a old man and his grandson where old decommissioned giant robot Godaizer is kept.

When a giant monster is awoken, its time for Godaizer to rise again and defeat it. But at what cost is it going to take to take down the monster?

The Faeries of Blackheath Woods

Finally! A fairy story where the children turn out to be the real monsters. From the fairies' perspective, that kid is Godzilla. Just sayin'. This short was written and directed by Ciaran Foy.

Thanks for the tip Avery.

And last (but not least) one more winter short discovered by Quiet Earth. Let's just say one thing about this short film...if you had a hard time getting through the doggie plot lines ofMarley and Me, then this is not for you.
