Four Storms on the Move | NASA’s GOES-West satellite captured this image of four tropical cyclones all at once in the Pacific Ocean. From left to right, there’s Typhoon Kilo, Hurricane Ignacio, Hurricane Jimena and Tropical Depression 14E.
I was a USAF weather observer stationed in Hawaii for 3 years, including during the last major el Nino. One of my jobs was to plot tropical storms in the Pacific, and it was always a big pain, not because it was hard but because I was lazy and it was super boring, especially since none of them ever came close. Four is a lot. I hope Hawaii can stay out of the crosshairs this year.
