Here it is: Your first look at The Expanse, Syfy's huge adaptation of the book series by James S.A. Corey. Including a lot of insanely beautiful visuals, but also a ton of intense drama as the "Belters" at the edge of the solar system chafe under the control of Earth and Mars. What do you think?
It definitely looks like they've taken a fair number of liberties with these books — the Belters aren't as tall and thin as we'd expected, for one thing. But this does look fun as hell, with lots of "spitting nails" political dialogue and messages about how short-sighted we humans are. Basically, we paved paradise and put up a parking lot, and now we're out in the hard, unforgiving vacuum trying to turn a lifeless rock into a viable world. "We make it all this way, so far out into the darkness... why couldn't we have brought more light?"
Here's how Syfy describes the show, in one sentence: "'The Expanse' follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship's captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history." It launches sometime this year, but there's no firm airdate yet.
